Deputy Receives Purple Heart Award
The Laramie County Sheriff’s Department recognized several agency members for outstanding service on Friday. That included a Purple Heart Award for Deputy Chance Walkama, who was shot by a suspect at the Fairfield Inn last November.
Valdez Runs for Another Term
Cheyenne Ward 1 Councilman Jimmy Valdez says he is running for a fourth term on the city’s g0verning body. Valdez, a local businessman, says if he is re-elected he would like to work for better planning of city projects as well as completion of those which have already been started. He cites the city’s legal battle to obtain a part of the Hollywood Video parking lot as the sort of situation that should be avoided.
Energy Commission Again Vetoes Pipeline Proposal [AUDIO]
The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission on Thursday re-affirmed it’s decision to deny a re-hearing on a Preliminary Permit Application for Colorado Millionaire Aaron Million’s Flaming Gorge Pipeline Proposal. Governor Matt Mead signed a Memorial Day Proclamation Thursday urging residents to take a moment on Monday May 28 to remember those who have served this country and those who have sacrificed their lives, as well as their families. Stock says Space Issues a Continuing Challenge
Laramie County School District 1 Superintendent Mark Stock says the district continues to face a challenge in finding adequate space for district classes and programs. Stock says one common misconception is that such problems could be solved simply by moving all 6th grade classes into the district’s Junior High Schools. Stock says those schools barely have enough space to hold the grades already housed in them. Read More...
Health Department Issues Smoke Warning
The Wyoming Department of Health is reminding residents, especially those with heart or respiratory problems, to avoid breathing in air contaminated by smoke from wildfires. Spokeswoman Kim Deti says small children are also susceptible to such air contamination. Read More...
Farmland Values Soar [AUDIO]
The Federal Reserve says the average value of farmland in several midwest and western states grew by over 25 percent in the first quarter as farm income remained strong. Amy Richards has a report. Ash Announces Commission Run
Amber Ash, who has represented Ward 1 on the Cheyenne City Council for the past four years, says she is running for the open four year seat on the Laramie County Commission as a Republican. Ash, who is 28, says one of her priorities if elected would be to improve the relationship between the commission and the Cheyenne City Council, which she says has became more adversarial over recent years.
Nebraska Woman Killed in I-80 Crash
An 84 year old Chadron, Nebraska woman was killed in a single vehicle crash on Interstate 80 near Elk Mountain on Sunday afternoon, according to Wyoming Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Steve Townsend.
Senior Health Fair June 9
Cheyenne Regional Medical Center is presenting a Senior Health Fair June 9 in the Physical Education Building at Laramie County Community College, according to Diane Hogerty, Community Resource Manager for the Office of Community Health at CRMC. She says a wide number of displays and booths will be available for topics ranging from entertainment to health programs for seniors to bereavement support.
Former Natrona Student killed in Crash [AUDIO]
Two of the workers injured in a fire at the Sinclair Oil Refinery have been released, while a third has been transferred to a Salt Lake City hospital. Amy Richards has a report. A former Natrona County High School student is dead after being involved in a single vehicle crash in Casper Tuesday. Kevin Koile has more on that story.
